The Moonbeam Scorpion Appliqué Quilt is the nighttime diametric of a scorpion under ultraviolet light. The quilting pattern represents moonlight radiating down onto the arachnid, revealing the glow of the fluorescent hyaline layer within the exoskeleton during the night.
The scorpion shape is composed of 69 individual pieces of leather-like fabric, each drawn and cut by hand, then attached to the flannel quilt top fabric with a satin stitch border. The back of the quilt is an ultra-plush minky fabric—ideal for cuddling. Sandwiched between the flannel quilt top and minky backing is a low-loft wool/cotton blend batting. At 56 inches by 74 inches, this quilt is larger than a common throw blanket, but smaller than a true twin size. Construction of the scorpion companion quilts began in 2022 and concluded in 2025.
